2.5-Hour Spring Foraging Walk

Falmer, Brighton

Foraging is a basic human right and everyone should have access to it, that’s why we’ve set up the Community Forage, to make an affordable foraging experience for anyone living in the city.

You don’t have to live in the woods to learn how to harvest your own wild food!

Learn to forage with Leo,

The Barefoot Forager.

Leo’s approach to foraging is engaging, fun, and informative. Teaching you how to identify wild food and educating on the history, science and nutrition of our foraged goods.

🌿 What to expect

Spring brings us an abundance of fresh nutritious greens, edible flowers, trees and even some fungi! It’s a time of year foragers save money on grocery bills.

We start our day with a short meet and greet going over the do’s and don’ts of foraging and the laws that surround it, we’ll then move onto our walk.

As we explore we stop at various species of plants, trees and fungi and discuss their uses; culinary, medicinal, historical, chemical and nutritional profiles.

You will get recipes and science based facts on a case by case basis.

Everyone receives a follow up email after the course covering the key finds of the day.

🌿 Location

Falmer is home to a huge variety of green spaces, from Brighton’s nature reserve Stanmer Park to the green spaces that surround Sussex university, it’s a great place for foraging education.

The meeting point will be near Falmer train station, exact details will be in the email after booking.

🌿 What to bring

The rain won’t stop us walking! Please check the weather and dress appropriately!

Bring water for the day and snacks if you feel you will need them.

We encourage taking notes but you will receive a follow up email after the course so its not essential.

🌿 How the day will run

Arrival time is 9:45am. The exact location will be in your email after booking.

Walk starts at 10am with a guided tour of our locla park stopping at various species of plants, trees and fungi (if we find them).

The walk finishes around 12:15pm where we will recap our finds for the day giving a chance to answer any questions you may have.

This event typically lasts 2.5 hours.

The route will vary day to day but it’s all easy terrain, not climbing any mountains!

🌿 Facilities and parking

There are not toilets direcetly where we walk here, they are avaliable in the train station for ticket holders.

It’s easy to access Falmer via train or main bus routes from Brighton & Hove.
