Prepare to explore the wild!

What to expect

A 2.5 hour foraging walk followed by seasonal wild food tasters, examples of menus are further down the page.

Autumn in the UK is an especially generous season. Mushroom season is in full swing and many plants begin to get a second spring flush. On the walk we will stop at various species of plants, trees and fungi and discuss their uses; culinary, medicinal, historical, chemical and nutritional profiles.

Location

Wild Weald Wood is an 85-acre private and semi-ancient woodland. It’s an idyllic historic site shaped by Roman potteries, medieval iron work and centuries of rural craft.

With a wide diversity of tree and fungi species it grants us an ideal location for mushroom hunting!

What to bring

The rain won’t stop us walking! Please check the weather and dress appropriately!

Bring water for the day and snacks if you feel you will need them, there will be tasters but not a full lunch course.

We encourage taking notes using either your phone or a notepad!

How the day will run

Arrival time is 9:45am. The exact location will be in your email after booking.

Walk starts at 10am with a guided tour of our nature reserve stopping at various species of plants, trees and fungi.

The walk will finish around 12:30pm. We will then enjoy some seasonal wild tasters and recap our finds for the day allowing a chance to answer any questions you may have.

The route will vary day to day but it’s all fairly easy terrain, if you have mobility issues please contact us.

This event typically lasts 3 hours.
