Learn to forage with Leo,

The Barefoot Forager.

With a background in the performing arts and culinary exploration Leo’s approach to foraging is engaging, fun, and informative.

Teaching you how to identify wild food and educating on the history, science and nutrition of our wild world.

Prepare to explore the wild!

🌿 What to expect

Spring brings us an abundance of fresh nutritious greens, edible flowers, trees and even some fungi! It’s a time of year foragers save money on grocery bills.

We start our day with a short meet and greet going over the do’s and don’ts of foraging and the laws that surround it, we’ll then move onto our walk.

As we explore we stop at various species of plants, trees and fungi identify them and discuss their uses; culinary, medicinal, historical, chemical and nutritional profiles.

You will feel and taste wild food as we walk, receiving recipes and science based facts on a case by case basis.

Everyone receives a follow up email after the course covering the key finds of the day.

🌿 Location

Hackney may not sound like your typical foraging spot but its an amazing area of diverse habitat including wetlands, grasslands and woodland, giving us a wide range of species to explore.

Designated as a Metropolitan site of importance for nature conservation we can expect to see bountiful wildlife alongside the high variety of plants and trees.

🌿 What to bring

The rain won’t stop us walking! Please check the weather and dress appropriately!

Bring water for the day and snacks if you feel you will need them, there will be tasters but not a full lunch menu.

We encourage taking notes but you will receive a follow up email after the course so its not essential.

It can get muddy so wear boots if it’s been raining.

🌿 How the day will run

Arrival time is 15 minutes before your course start time. The exact location will be in your email after booking.

After a short meet and greet we will start a guided tour of the Marshes stopping at various species of plants, trees and fungi, looking at both edible and toxic species.

The walk finishes around 12:30pm where we will enjoy some wild seasonal tasters and recap our finds for the day, giving a chance to answer any questions you may have.

This event typically lasts 3 hours.

The route will vary day to day but it’s all easy terrain, not climbing any mountains!

🌿 Wild Tasters

These are all foraged and made by Leo.
